Pauline Bastard

Artist

Born in 1982, Pauline Bastard studied at the Beaux-Arts de Paris, the Sorbonne and New York University.

Her work is built around different social structures that she questions by reproducing them in collective experiences. Being a person, being part of a family, working together, gathering around grand narratives: these replayed situations produce images, films and objects. Her work has been shown in recent years in group exhibitions at Mac/Val, Kunstwerk Carlshütte, Kunsthal Aarhus, Arts Santa Monica in Barcelona, Assembly Point in London, as well as in solo exhibitions, most recently at Villa Merkel in Esslingen and at the Joan Prats Gallery. Pauline Bastard is represented by the Barbara Seiler gallery in Zurich and Joan Prats in Barcelona. She was the winner of the Audi Prize 2014, the Mécènes du Sud prize in 2016 and the OVNI video prize in 2018. Since 2015 she has been part of Doc in Paris, where she has her studio and participates in various projects. After teaching at ESAA Annecy in 2014 and at the Sorbonne between 2007 and 2014, she has been a professor at ENSBA Lyon since 2015 where she develops a pedagogical form centered on mutual aid as a mode of learning.
