Randa Maroufi
Randa Marouf interrogates and brings into dialogue both visible and invisible structures that shape the social spaces in which we live.
At the intersection of photography, cinema, installation, and performance, her artistic practice is grounded in a living relationship with the people she films.
It is not constrained bodies that are photographed or filmed, but rather active figures who open up, carry, and shift the gaze. Far from being a distanced form of documentation or a phantasmagorical appropriation of reality, the artist’s approach is based on a system of exchange in which each staged situation emerges from an ongoing dialogue.
Narrative and gesture are reconfigured within one and the same space of the sensible, resulting in a body of work that is endowed with and constructed through and by these “performers.” Sharing thus becomes the beating heart of her practice, the fundamental element of both its aesthetic and political commitment.

Her work has been presented at major events dedicated to contemporary art and cinema, including the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival (France, 2026), Critics’ Week at the Cannes Film Festival (France, 2025), Nouveau Printemps de Toulouse (France, 2025), the National Museum of Women in the Arts (Washington, D.C., USA, 2024), the Musée de la Photographie de Charleroi (Belgium, 2023), the Lyon Biennale (France, 2022), the Museo Reina Sofía (Spain, 2021), the Dakar Biennale (Senegal, 2018), Videonale Bonn (Germany, 2017), the International Film Festival Rotterdam (Netherlands, 2016), the Rencontres de Bamako (Mali, 2015), and the Marrakech Biennale (Morocco, 2014), among others.
Born in Casablanca, Morocco, in 1987, Marouf graduated from the National Institute of Fine Arts in Tetouan, before attending the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts d’Angers and then Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains. She was a resident at the Casa de Velázquez in 2017 and at the Villa Medici in 2025.
