Rewatch "Double Casquette" : a panel of discussion with Corentin Canesson, Martha Fély, Adrien Horni, Charlie Malgat et Ji Min Park

Saturday 18 April 2026

As part of the Entretiens sur l'art, critic and curator Jill Gasparina leads a panel of discussion with artists Corentin Canesson, Martha Fély, Adrien Horni, Charlie Malgat and Ji Min Park.

In a famous excerpt from L'Idéologie allemande (1845-1846), Marx and Engels imagined how communist society would allow the alienating specialization of activities to be undone by creating "the possibility of doing one thing today, another thing tomorrow, hunting in the morning, fishing in the afternoon, ranching in the evening, criticism after a meal [...], without ever becoming a hunter, fisherman or critic."

This idea of non-specialization applied to the work of art is the starting point of Double Casquette, with this question: what do artists do when they don’t make art? As a response, we could say that they make bread or movies, create music groups, work to earn money, spend time with their friends, raise children, scrollent, garden, take care of animals in a sheepfold, teach, and lift iron. Far from the romantic conception of an artistic practice that would swallow everything, these multiple activities merge, sometimes add up, sometimes replacing each other as time goes by.

From food jobs to reconversion fantasies and multiactivity, Double Casquette invites artists to share and reflect on other stories about their careers.
