Agathe Berthaux Weil / Anne Le Troter

Christian Alandete invites Agathe Berthaux Weil & Anne Le Troter.

Agathe Berthaux Weil / Last Sunday, not yesterday but the one before

Sunday, March 31, 2019 may be our last date of time change. This event always gives rise, as a sort of ritual with family, friends or with oneself, to a vertiginous and endless discussion: « Will we lose or win an hour? Will it be daylight or will it be dark? And tomorrow at the same time as now will it be sooner or later? Unless it’s both at the same time, it depends on what you mean by sooner or later …  »

This discussion, which always tells the same questions and the same answers, whether we will be able to sleep an hour longer or an hour less, we will probably not have it anymore soon…

Anne Le Troter

Invited by the Fondation d’entreprise Ricard and then by the Biennial of Rennes and the contemporary art center Le Grand Café in Saint Nazaire, the artist engages in a new cycle of writing around the notion of biography, of fiction and of utopia about the audio archives produced by sperm banks, an indicator of a form of redefinition of our society.

Biographies

Agathe Berthaux Weil was born in 1989, she lives and works in Paris. She develops a reflection around logic and reasoning. Her work is about linguistic and mathematical mechanisms through texts, and performances with a scientific look. In the form of lectures or demonstrations, she questions the different modes of production of knowledge. She handles with humor the verbal and arithmetic logics, making the reasoning more complex than the incomprehension, in order to establish analogies and to address current philosophical and societal questions. Her pieces are placed on the limits between reality and fiction, between absurdity and rationalism, between doubts and certainties. From her performances remain the schemas, the texts and the objects, which become thereafter bearers of these narrations.

She is currently in residence at Mains d’oeuvre.

Anne Le Troter was born in 1985. She lives and works in Paris. After writing two books, The Encyclopedia of Matter and Claire, Anne, Laurence, she began to work, per cycle, on the modes of speech appearance of groups determined by adding the exposures (often sound pieces) producing, at the end, written pieces. She invites groups of people such as the ASMR artists to come and work with her (The Appetence, sound piece, 2016 Montrouge Salon and Palais de Tokyo Awards). Recently released a cycle of sound installations around the figure of the telephone interviewer, extended cycle over the duration of two personal exhibitions and a collective (The adjoining BF15 in 2015, bullets at the Palais de Tokyo in 2017 and Silences after a question at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Villeurbanne in 2017), the work of Anne Le Troter today takes the path of the kind of anticipation.

At the same time, the artist engages in other formats than those of the exhibition, particularly that of homestead theater / residential theater – in collaboration with Charlotte Khouri – a project to ask for hospitality for one evening people supporting this format, friends and followers of an institution, to present a form of theater. Homestay theater was the subject of a program in Saint-Nazaire with the Le Grand Café art center. He will be welcomed soon in Reims thanks to FRAC Champagne-Ardenne then will go to the theater Nanterre-Amandiers.
