The theme chosen by Michel Maffesoli for this Rendezvous of Imagination is « Expense and the Economic Crisis. » It will bring together researcher Antoine Mahé, marketing director Nicolas Hirel, and journalist Benjamin Dard.
Georges Bataille’s words on « consummation » resonate in many ways within contemporary imagination. A simple consumption founded on unlimited production and need has been replaced by the current « consummation » generated by desire. The former is quantitative, the latter qualitative.
Could the crisis be understood also through this shift in values? The question will be central to the debate.
