Event

Liv Schulman

Wednesday 23 November 2022 at 7 pm

The Conversations on art cycle gives the opportunity to hear an artist's voice on his or her work in a long term conversation. For this new conference, art critic Jill Gasparina welcomes the artist Liv Schulman.

Films, sculpture, installation, performance, novel writing: Liv Schulman's work holds a remarkable balance between plastic and discursive forms. In her films, speech unfolds in the form of endless chatter, endless monologues that take as their subjects, for example, the economy, gender relations, psychoanalysis, eroticism, but also a whole range of material elements of everyday life. At the same time, the sets and props, often made from scratch, are emancipated from the narratives in which they appear, becoming sculptural elements, autonomous.

This interview will be an opportunity to return to the great divisions that characterize his practice, from solitary writing to collective realization, from narrative to performative, from acerbic criticism to unbridled humor, from personal to political.

Liv Schulman was born in 1985 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
She lives and works in Paris.
In 2022-2023, she is a resident at the French Academy in Rome - Villa Medicis.
