Ana Baliza and Alexandre Estrela
ABOUT Oporto & FarO
Alexandre Estrela (1971-) is a Portuguese artist who founded the non-profit space Oporto in 2007 in his Lisbon studio. Ana Baliza (1985-), graphic designer and editor, joined him in 2012. In just a few years, this space with its distinctive history and aesthetic has become one of the most precise and valuable programs Lisbon has ever seen. Until 2021, Oporto programmed “sessions” of experimental film screenings, always on a single evening, and around a single piece, and always accompanied by the production of a poster and a text skilfully written by four hands. In 2023, they reopen in the same city and under a new name FarO, “far from O” in a cinema that shares a wall with the Santa Isabel church. The conversation will focus on the particularities and history of Oporto and FarO, and how, to quote Ana Baliza, “this anti-job/job” allows them to feed and redistribute their obsessions.
