Davide Balula

Artist

Born in 1978 in Portugal, he lives and works in New York.

Davide Balula studied contemporary music at the Conservatoire d’Annecy and visual arts at the École supérieure d’art Annecy Alpes before continuing his training at the École supérieure des arts décoratifs de Strasbourg and at the École nationale supérieure d’arts de Paris-Cergy. Davide Balula uses all forms of natural materials (solid, liquid, gas, fire), as well as artificial structures and systems (architecture, virtual networks) to generate paintings, sculptures, photographs, performances and in situ interventions. Balula’s interest in translation also draws our attention to how art and all abstractions (including language itself) are approximations of what they claim to convey.
