Dans la bibliothèque de Jean-Paul Demoule, with Sylvain Bourmeau

As part of the series Dans la bibliothèque de, designed in partnership with AOC and hosted by Sylvain Bourmeau, the Foundation welcomes historian and archaeologist Jean-Paul Demoule.

Jean-Paul Demoule is professor emeritus at the University of Paris 1 - Panthéon-Sorbonne, and honorary member of the Institut universitaire de France. He has conducted excavations in France as well as in Greece and Bulgaria. He specializes in the protohistory of Europe (Neolithic agriculture and animal husbandry; early unequal and hierarchical societies, up to the Iron Age). He was president of the Institut national de recherches archéologiques préventives (Inrap) from its creation in 2002 until 2008. And published about twenty works, including :  Mais où sont passés les Indo-Européens ? Le Mythe d'origine de l'Occident (Le Seuil, "Librairie du XXIe siècle", 2014), Les Dix millénaires qui ont fait l'histoire : quand on inventa l'agriculture, les chefs et la guerre (Fayard, 2017), Aux origines, l'archéologie : une science au cœur des grands débats de notre temps (La Découverte, 2020). Not to mention, with Sophie Calle, L'ascenseur occupe la 501 (Actes Sud, 2022), catalog of their exhibition "Les Fantômes d'Orsay" (Musée d'Orsay, 2022).
