Interview on art with Liv Schulman, hosted by Jill Gasparina

This interview was made in French

The "Art Talks" cycle gives the opportunity to hear the word of an artist about his or her work in long-term conversations. For this new appointment, the art critic Jill Gasparina receives the artist Liv Schulman on November 23, 2022.

Films, sculpture, installation, performance, novel writing: Liv Schulman's work holds a remarkable balance between plastic and discursive forms. In her films, speech unfolds in the form of endless chatter, long monologues that take as their subjects, for example, the economy, gender relations, psychoanalysis, eroticism, but also a whole range of material elements of everyday life. At the same time, the sets and props, often made from scratch, are emancipated from the narratives in which they appear, becoming sculptural elements, autonomous. This interview will be an opportunity to look back at the great divisions that characterize her practice, from solitary writing to collective realization, from narrative to performative, from acerbic criticism to unbridled humor, from personal to political.

Liv Schulman was born in 1985 and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
She lives and works in Paris.
