Baptiste Pinteaux about PaJaMa
To inaugurate this new series of talks, I’ll be in conversation with publisher and curator Baptiste Pinteaux. He will present and discuss his research into the photographic work of PaJaMa, a trio of American painters comprising Paul Cadmus (1904–1999), Jared French (1905–1988), and Margaret Hoening French (1906–1998). We’ll talk about romance, lineage, and learning not to work alone.

Baptiste Pinteaux is a publisher and curator. He co-directs the journal octopus notes and Éditions Daisy. From 2018 to 2023, he contributed to the programming of Treize, an independent exhibition space in Paris. His recent research focuses on the work of artist and novelist Pati Hill (1921–2014), New York critic and performer Lil Picard (1899–1994), and the photographs of PaJaMa, a trio of American painters made up of Paul Cadmus, Jared French and Margaret Hoening French. In 2026, he is a fellow in art theory at the Académie de France à Rome – Villa Medici. His work has received support from the Centre National des Arts Plastiques and the Institut Français. He is currently working on several books devoted to the work of Lili Reynaud Dewar, to PaJaMa, and to the Air de Paris gallery.
