This year's program addresses the themes of publishing, exhibiting, and collecting in “non-institutional” spaces, providing an opportunity to reflect on the complexity, richness, and importance of independence as a means of action.
"This second edition is an opportunity to further explore the ideas initiated last year with the program ‘TALK WITH AND ABOUT: artistic practice, publishing, and curating in non-institutional environments and spaces.’ This year, a new category has been added with the introduction of 'the collection.' This program reflects a certain reality of my practice: I am the co-founder of the art magazine octopus notes, the non-profit space Ampersand, and the publishing house Daisy. Now considered a trilogy, these projects were all founded collaboratively and arose simply from a desire and a need to “do”—essentially independently, emphasizing the importance and existence of other models.
In 2024, I joined a public institution as head of publications. This new context introduced me to other working methodologies, and I sometimes feel ambivalent about putting them into practice. The idea behind this program is therefore to share, through a series of conversations, the complexity and experience of individuals who have founded, manage, or invest in non-institutional spaces.
What does it mean to try to do things differently? What does “institutional” mean? What are the limitations and joys of these different methodologies, and how can they converse? MOREPublishers (Belgium), Rivers Institute for Contemporary Art & Thought (New Orleans, US), Radio Athens (Greece), and the Stillpass collection in Cincinnati (Ohio, US) will put these questions into perspective."
