Exhibition from 2 to 4 December 2016

As part of the OVNI festival, the Hotel Windsor in Nice, known for its unique collection of 31 « artist rooms » and its collection of permanent and temporary contemporary art installations, will be hosting an art video event on the weekend of the 2nd – 4th December 2016.

The Fondation d’entreprise Ricard will be participating in this event with a showing of Styx, 2016, by Samir Ramdani.

Paris-based artist Samir Ramdani was born in 1979. He graduated from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (Germany) before going on to study at the École des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse. He has taken part in a number of residency programmes, notably Le Pavillion at the Palais de Tokyo in 2010. In 2015 he was awarded the CNC Prix de Qualité for his film Black Diamond (RedShoes Production). His work fluctuates between video installations, photography and cinema. The political dimension of his work is always expressed in an off-beat and caustic manner, in which otherwise remote worlds and aesthetics collide. His works evoke scenes of domination, whether symbolic or social. In his psychedelic science-fiction video Styx, the artist transports us from an ethereal world of pure light and sensation, towards the physicality of the body, sexuality and the dynamics of passion. The story is narrated in Mongolian and the characters are played by two black actors and vogueing performers, transporting us to an Afro-futurist world. « The genre issue is a major area of transformation right now. What I’m interested in is moving from one world to another, from one area to another, from art to cinema, in avoiding categorisation, » declares Ramdani.

This video was presented by the Fondation d’entreprise Ricard in Paris last January, as part of its FERTILE LANDS exhibition.
