Sebastian Wiegand was born in 1987 in Kiel, Germany. He lives and works in Berlin.

He studied at the HFBK in Hamburg, at the ÉNSBA in Paris, as well as the Universidad Complutense in Madrid. In 2021, with Rosa
Joly, he cofounded the independent exhibition space Scheusal in Berlin. In his paintings, Sebastian Wiegand mixes autobiographical elements, references to art history and literature, as well as direct social observations. Through this dialogue, he explores the contemporary possibilities of figurative and narrative painting. He is interested in this medium as a “container” of experiences and its potential to comment on the ways of life, belief systems and political positions of Western societies. His work has been exhibited
internationally, notably at the Kunstverein de Bielefeld, DOC in Paris, La Traverse in Marseille and the Kunsthaus in Hamburg. He is currently an artist in residence at 99 Canal in New York.
