This exhibition takes as its starting point a hypothesis: that of invoking dreams, both as a subject and as a space, for what they can tell us today about our modes of relationship and representation.

If, in our contemporary era, we seem to live elsewhere than in our dreams, we could just as easily assert that they never leave us; they watch over us, creating a dialogue between reality and other places or times. Depending on the era and geography, human lives have often been thought of in terms of dreams, considered as intermediaries between different worlds, visible and invisible, but also as creators of social bonds, essential in the formation of a collective and environmental consciousness. From the first visual traces left by humans in our living environments to the present day, many artists have attempted to explore what dreams do to our lives and representations, and what they open up in the aesthetic experience provided by works of art."

Elodie Royer, curator of the show

“L'argument du rêve” (The Dream Argument) is also the title of a book by Muriel Pic published in 2022 by Éditions Héros-Limite, a collection of documentary poems which, drawing on previously unpublished archives, explores the place of utopia in our lives. The collection thus measures the power of dreams, which, far from being a negligible reality, document the way in which history inhabits our bodies and can lead us to the best or the worst.
