Wilfrid Almendra

Wilfrid Almendra is a Franco-Portuguese artist born in Cholet in 1972. He now lives and works in Marseille.
In his work, ideas and materials are inseparable. His formal vocabulary is derived from the architecture, shapes and surfaces with which we surround ourselves. The materials he uses most often come from the alternative economy, barter and exchange. They put into tension questions linked to social class, the desire for comfort and the individual capacity for invention and poetry found at the heart of the most normative things.
Her work has recently enjoyed solo exhibitions at Palais de Tokyo (2017); Fogo Island Arts, Canada (2016); Fondation d'Entreprise Ricard (2013). His work has been included in numerous group shows in France and abroad, including Roundhouse Chicago (2017); Mudam, Luxembourg (2017); Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris (2016); CAC Vilnius (2015); Biennale de Rennes (2014); Kunsthalle Vienna (2014); Centre Pompidou Metz (2013); Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (2012); Witte de With, Rotterdam (2011); Baibakov Art Center (2010), etc.
